A covered retreat.
An open-air connection.

This Medina project shows how a covered seating area and an open AZEK deck can work as one outdoor living space.

What this project brings together

The photograph shows a sheltered seating area beside an open section of decking, with a grill zone, a shaped outside edge and a coordinated railing. Cream-colored posts and rails frame the space, while dark balusters keep the railing visually lighter against the trees and yard.

The gable roof gives the covered portion a clear identity. The wood-toned ceiling adds warmth above the seating area, and the open decking continues that gathering space beyond the roof. It is a useful example of how separate outdoor activities can share a connected layout.

Room under cover

The roofed area creates a defined place for outdoor furniture while remaining connected to the open deck.

Room out in the sun

The uncovered section leaves space for a different experience, with the railing and deck edge tying the design together.

Why the material specification matters

This project is identified in our portfolio as an AZEK deck. When planning a similar build, ask which Advanced PVC collection, color, board width and fastening system will be included. “Low maintenance” should describe a specific product and care routine.

Advanced PVC is wood-free decking. It is different from a wood-plastic composite board, even when both are casually called “composite.” Our AZEK PVC versus Trex composite comparison explains that distinction in plain language.

Planning a covered deck for your home

Start with the connection to the house, the path to the yard, the furniture you want to fit and the balance of covered and uncovered space. A roof affects the structure and how the outdoor area relates to nearby doors and windows, so it belongs in the early design conversation.

Bring photos of your property and approximate dimensions. Tell us whether you want a dining space, lounge seating, a grill area or a combination. We will discuss the design and site-specific scope rather than treating the pictured project as a fixed package.

Use our covered-deck planning checklist and Medina County cost guide to prepare your questions.
